VISITATION: Tuesday, June 17, 2014 from 5 ~ 7 p.m. at the Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong, Illinois.

CELEBRATION OF RICHARD’S LIFE: Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in the Oblong Cemetery.  Military Rites conducted by Oblong American Legion Post #219.

Richard A. Ralston, 84, Oblong, IL. passed away at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Vincennes, IN.

Richard was born on August 25, 1929 in Marshall, IL. and was the son of Ethan Allen Ralston and Edith Irene (Hunt) Ralston  On August 27, 1950, he married Mary Lu Leggett who preceded him in death on October 26, 2008.

Richard was Oblong Township Supervisor for 38 years retiring in May 2013.  He was also in charge of Crawford Solid Waste Disposal Agency; served on the board of the Ambraw Valley Solid Waste for many years and Bradford Supply where he served as store and credit manager and retired in 1986 as Vice President.  Richard was a Past President of the Township Officials of Illinois in 2009 and 2010.  Richard served his country in the United State Marines and was a member of First Christian Church, Oblong, IL. where he served as an Elder and Sunday School teacher for many years.  He attended Johnson Bible College.

Richard is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Richard A. “Rick” and Robin Ralston II of Andover, KS; a daughter and son-in-law Jane Ann and Jon C. Zerkel of Effingham, IL; three grandchildren Adrienne R. Foster of Elkhorn, WA, Richard A. “Trey” Ralston III of Oblong, IL; and Mitchell Dale Ralston of Pittsburg, KS; a brother and sister-in-law John and Carolyn Ralston of Marshall, IL; sister-in-law Nancy Ralston of Shelbyville, IL; seven nieces and nephews and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephew.

Preceding Richard in death were his parents; wife Mary Lu; granddaughter Erica Lee Ralston and a brother James Ralston.
